A handyman for Traralgon and the Latrobe Valley
Every home has a list. The door that has to be lifted to lock. The towel rail hanging by one screw. The patch of black mould in the shower silicone. The fence paling that blew off in the last westerly. The new TV still leaning against the wall. None of these jobs is big enough to call a builder, and most trades won’t come out for them. That’s where we come in.
Traralgon Handyman takes on the small and medium jobs that keep a home working, across Traralgon, Morwell, Moe, Newborough, Churchill and the surrounding Latrobe Valley communities. We repair, adjust, patch, seal, hang, mount, assemble and maintain, from a single sticking door to a full list of jobs before a sale or a new tenancy. You send the list; we quote each item clearly, turn up on time, do the work properly and leave the place tidy.
Why a local handyman suits the Valley
The Latrobe Valley has a housing story all of its own. Much of it was built in a hurry in the 1950s, 60s and 70s, when the State Electricity Commission needed homes for the workers who ran the power stations and mines at Yallourn, Morwell and Hazelwood. Whole suburbs in Morwell, Moe, Newborough and Churchill went up in a few decades, and those homes, now fifty to seventy years old, are wearing in similar ways. At the same time, Traralgon has grown steadily into the region’s main centre, with new estates on its north and west edges, while lifestyle properties have spread into Tyers, Glengarry, Hazelwood North and the foothills of Traralgon South.
That mix means every week brings a different combination of jobs: original timber windows in a Moe cottage, a dropped door in a Churchill brick veneer, a rental turnover in Morwell, a deck in Traralgon South and a TV wall in a new Traralgon home. Knowing the local homes, weather and soils helps us get it right the first time.

What we don’t do
Being clear about scope saves everyone time. We do not do licensed electrical, plumbing or gas work, structural building, roofing on steep or fragile roofs, tree felling or asbestos removal. If your list includes any of these, we’ll say so in our quote so you can book the right licensed trade, and we’re happy to do the handyman items around them.

How it works
1. Send your list
Use our free quote form. List each job on its own line, mention the suburb and add any photos you have.
2. We ask the right questions
If anything needs clarifying, such as wall type, sizes or access, we’ll ask by email.
3. You get an itemised quote
Every item is quoted separately so you can see exactly what’s included and choose what to do now and what can wait.
4. We do the work and clean up
We arrive at the agreed time, protect floors and furniture, work through the list, clean up and take away rubbish. We walk you through the finished jobs or send photos if you’re not home.
Who we work for
Homeowners
From first-home buyers in Morwell to retirees who’ve been in their Moe homes for fifty years, homeowners make up most of our work. We help keep homes safe, comfortable and in good order.
Landlords, tenants and property managers
The Valley has a large rental market, and rentals need fast, reliable repairs with good records. We work from inspection reports, coordinate access with tenants and supply dated photos of every job. See property managers.
Lifestyle properties
In Tyers, Glengarry, Hazelwood North and Traralgon South, we look after verandahs, decks, sheds, gates and fences near the house, as well as everything inside.
Small businesses
Shops, offices, clinics and community buildings need maintenance too. See commercial handyman services.
Seasonal maintenance in the Latrobe Valley
Autumn and winter
The valley fogs, frosts and cold fronts arrive from May onwards. Clean gutters, fit door seals, adjust windows and deal with mould before it spreads. See our winter guide.
Spring
Pressure wash paths and decks, oil timber, repair flyscreens and check fences after winter storms.
Summer and fire season
The Valley has a long memory of fire, from Black Saturday in the Strzelecki foothills to the Hazelwood mine fire. Clean gutters, repair ember mesh, seal gaps and clear around the house. See our fire preparation guide.

The homes we work on
Post-war SEC houses
Thousands of Valley homes were built for power industry workers between the late 1940s and the 1970s. They tend to be solid, practical houses: weatherboard or brick veneer, timber floors on stumps or concrete slabs, timber or early aluminium windows and modest kitchens and bathrooms. After decades of use, their common problems are predictable. Doors drop and stop latching as hinges wear and houses settle. Windows stiffen or stop locking. Bathroom grout cracks, silicone goes black, and tiles drum. Kitchen cupboard hinges give out and drawer runners collapse. Fence posts rot at ground level. None of it is dramatic, but left alone it builds up, and small leaks into walls and floors can become expensive. Working through these items regularly keeps an older home sound and comfortable for decades more.
Some of these homes also contain asbestos in eaves, wet-area linings, sheds and some wall sheets. We don’t cut, drill or sand materials we can’t identify, and we’ll recommend testing when it’s needed.
Brick veneers of the 1970s to 1990s
Traralgon, Morwell and Churchill all have large areas of brick veneer homes from these decades. They usually need kitchen and bathroom repairs, door and window adjustments, plaster crack repairs where reactive clay soils have moved the house, and updated hardware.
New homes
New estates around Traralgon bring a different list: TV mounting, shelving, curtain rails and blinds, flat pack furniture, garage storage and, after the first year or two, door and gate adjustments as the house and garden settle.
Rural and lifestyle homes
On acreage, the list grows outward to verandahs, decks, sheds, stables, gates and fences near the house, plus gutters that need clearing before fire season.
Reactive soils and cracking walls
Much of the Latrobe Valley sits on clay that swells in wet winters and shrinks in dry summers. As it moves, houses move a little too. The signs are familiar: hairline cracks above doors and windows, cornices pulling away, doors that bind in one season and swing freely in another, and gaps under skirting. Most of this is cosmetic. We repair cracks with flexible fillers and tape, adjust doors and strike plates, refix skirting and touch up the paint. Keeping gutters and downpipes working and water away from the house reduces the movement. If cracks are wide, growing or stepping through brickwork, we’ll recommend a building inspector before patching over them.
Helping older residents stay at home
The Valley has many long-term residents who want to stay in the homes they’ve lived in for decades. Small changes make that easier and safer: grab rails beside toilets and in showers, handrails on steps, lever door handles, better access to cupboards and shelves, and help with the jobs that get harder with age, like cleaning gutters, changing high light globes and hanging curtains. We follow occupational therapists’ recommendations where provided, and we’re happy to work with family members who live elsewhere, sending photos when the work is done. See grab rails and accessibility.

Getting a home ready to sell
If you’re selling in Traralgon, Moe or anywhere in the Valley, buyers notice the small things: a scuffed hallway, a door that won’t close, a mouldy shower, a torn flyscreen, a leaning fence. These are usually inexpensive to fix compared with the impression they make. We work from your agent’s list or our own walk-through and keep to your listing timeline.
What makes a good handyman job
A good handyman job is not just about the fix itself. It’s about turning up when we said we would, understanding why the problem happened, fixing the cause rather than just the symptom, using materials that last and leaving the place cleaner than we found it. A door that sticks because of loose hinge screws shouldn’t simply be planed; the hinges need fixing first. Mouldy silicone shouldn’t be covered with a fresh bead; it needs to come out completely, with the joint cleaned and dried before resealing. A fence paling that keeps blowing off probably needs a rail refixed, not just another nail. Doing these things properly is what makes a repair last.
Getting the details right
The details matter most in jobs people see every day. When we patch a wall, we feather the edges, sand them smooth and prime before painting, so the patch disappears. When we hang a door, we check the gaps are even on all sides. When we mount a TV, we find the studs, level the bracket and tidy the cables (in-wall cabling and new power points need an electrician). When we regrout a shower, we remove the old grout to a good depth, so the new grout bonds. These small steps take a little longer and make the difference between a job that looks done and one that is done.
Clear, itemised quotes
Every quote lists each job separately. That means you can see where the time goes, decide what to tackle now and what can wait, and compare like with like. If we find something unexpected once we start, such as rot behind a trim, a wall that is softer than expected or a hidden leak, we stop, show you, and explain your options before doing anything extra. There are no surprises on the invoice.

Respect for your home
We treat every house as if it were our own. That means drop sheets on floors, shoes or covers inside where requested, dust kept to a minimum, tools packed away at the end of the day and rubbish taken with us. If you have pets, children or a home business, tell us and we’ll work around them. For rentals, we treat tenants’ homes with the same care and coordinate access respectfully.
One visit, many jobs
Because we handle such a wide range of work, one visit can cover jobs that would otherwise need a carpenter, a painter, a tiler and a fencer. That’s less time off work for you, fewer people to organise and one invoice. Many of our clients keep a running list and book us every few months to clear it.
Photos and records
For landlords, property managers, people living away and anyone who likes to keep records, we supply dated photos of each completed job. These are useful for condition reports, insurance and simply knowing what was done and when.
Valley weather and your home
The Latrobe Valley sits between the Great Dividing Range to the north and the Strzelecki Ranges to the south, and that shapes its weather. Winters bring heavy fogs that settle on the valley floor, frosty mornings and cold fronts with strong westerly winds and rain. Summers can be hot and dry, with northerly winds and days of high fire danger. Each season leaves its mark on homes: swollen timber doors and mouldy bathrooms in winter, loose palings and torn screens after storms, dust in window tracks and dried-out deck timber in summer. A simple routine of autumn and spring maintenance deals with most of it before it becomes a bigger problem. We’re happy to book you in for seasonal visits, so you don’t have to remember.
Small business and community buildings
Beyond homes, we help shops, offices, clinics, sporting clubs and community halls across the Valley with door closers and hardware, shelving, signage mounting, patching and painting, and general maintenance, often outside trading hours to avoid disruption.
If your business has a running list of small jobs, send it through and we’ll quote it the same way as a home: item by item, with clear times and no surprises.
